Connecting interface mechanisms to real environments.

Our environmental-biogeochemistry program examines how interactions among minerals, microorganisms and organic matter regulate carbon cycling and contaminant fate across croplands, permafrost, groundwater and water–sediment systems.

A long-term biochar-amended cropland experiment links microbial iron cycling and mineral transformation with organic-carbon accrual over decadal timescales.

Ecological restoration and soil-carbon persistence

Across ecological-restoration chronosequences and soil depths, we compare changes in soil-carbon stocks and persistence-related indicators and examine their climatic and land-use context.

Molecular characterization, regional sampling and evidence synthesis identify bound-residue halogenated organics in permafrost and clarify their relevance under thaw.
